The world's first! Guangzhou Port achieves full coverage of multi ship green methanol refueling scenarios
On October 16th, under the guidance of the Guangzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce and the Guangzhou Port Authority, and with the collaborative support of customs, border inspection, maritime, pilotage and other port units, the first green methanol refueling operation for roll on/roll off ships in Guangdong Province was successfully completed at the Nansha Automobile Port in Guangzhou Port. After completing 2300 tons of methanol injection (including 1400 tons of bonded green methanol), the latest "Guangrong" ship launched by China Merchants Roll on/Roll off has loaded over 4000 new energy commodity vehicles and sent them to Europe, marking the first voyage to Nansha. This assignment marks a crucial step forward for Nansha Automobile Port in upgrading its green and low-carbon shipping services and building a global channel for domestic cars to go global. It also makes Guangzhou Port the world's first port to have the ability to refuel in all waters with anchorage and terminal, achieving full coverage of green methanol refueling operations for container ships, bulk carriers, and car roll on/roll off ships. It demonstrates Guangzhou Port's full scenario and multi ship green methanol refueling service capabilities.
The "Guangrong" ship is a new generation of green large-scale vehicle roll on/roll off ships, and also the first methanol dual fuel powered roll on/roll off ship to dock at the Nansha Automobile Port. It has a total length of 199.9 meters and a width of 37.7 meters, with a designed load capacity of 7800 standard parking spaces. The methanol dual fuel power system it is equipped with can significantly reduce emissions of sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter, representing an important technological direction for the green transformation of vehicle roll on/roll off ships. This flight will stop at ports in Spain, Belgium and other countries along the European route.
Faced with the current situation of difficulty in finding roll on/roll off shipping space, the Municipal Bureau of Commerce actively coordinates with shipping companies to expand routes and increase shipping capacity, fully ensuring the demand for automobile exports in our city. The Municipal Bureau of Commerce stated that the export of automobiles to the outside world is an important lever for our city to build a high-level pattern of opening up to the outside world and promote the stable scale and optimal structure of foreign trade. From January to August this year, the export value of automobiles in our city exceeded 20 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of nearly 60%. Currently, our city is accelerating the construction of Guangzhou Automobile International Trade Center, focusing on building a modern automobile shipping hub. We will continue to strengthen the coordination between port industry and trade, continuously improve the supporting system, accurately connect with the export needs of automobile enterprises, open up automobile overseas logistics channels, and empower Guangzhou's automobile industry to sail overseas with high-quality port and shipping services.
Since the beginning of this year, Guangzhou Port's automobile exports have maintained a strong growth trend, and the annual export is expected to hit the target of 1 million vehicles. Among them, the export volume of Nansha Automobile Port increased by 40.9% year-on-year; The export volume of the "Nansha Europe" route increased by 2.4 times year-on-year, and the overseas shipping channels for domestic cars continue to expand. As one of the ports with the most complete supporting facilities for clean energy refueling services in domestic coastal ports, Guangzhou Port has currently formed a refueling service system that fully covers LNG, green methanol, and biofuels, and its international shipping service functions continue to improve. The three terminals of Nansha Automobile Port have passed the on-site evaluation of four-star green ports by the China Port Association in April this year. During the berthing period of the "Guangrong" ship, the simultaneous operation of green methanol refueling and new energy vehicle loading vividly demonstrated the development effect of coordinated linkage and two-way empowerment between green ships and green ports, providing a fresh practical sample for the integrated development of South China's automobile foreign trade and low-carbon shipping.
